    early experiences

    Bruce Bolos

    By Don Campau | 16 October 2011

In the beginning I sent Mindstrohl stuff to you, Fydor and Hal Mcgee.

I remember people liking Mindstrohl because it was so different and encompassed several different styles. It was very funny to me when a guy in Croatia sent me an email inquiring about Mindstrohl 4 years after I had closed the doors on that project.I remember thinking wow, people are still talking about Mindstrohl. That’s more longevity than I ever expected!

Using the classic home taper tools: 4 track, guitar, drum machine…Bruce Bolos from Hawaii laid down an array of sounds and quirky vocals and released it all as Dead Gerbils and previous to that, Mindstrohl. Truly the essence of “whatever happens” kind of home recording, a very refreshing and noncommercial blend.
