    tape of the month

    Swinebolt 45 "Spank" ( audiofile 1991)

    By Don Campau | 23 November 2011

LISTEN TO AND DOWNLOAD THIS TAPE

In 1991, Roger Moneymaker, working as rolmo, released his tape “Spank”, as a companion to “Wank” which had come out about a year earlier on the Harsh Reality label. “Spank” was released by Carl Howard’s audiofile label and when I first got it I was blown away by Roger’s prowess and his tonal approach. Not only was there was plenty of tasty and talented guitar antics but there was also a spacy, drony edge especially on side two that really gave this tape a balanced and beautiful feeling. This became, and still is, one of my personal favorites of the cassette era.

From Memphis, Roger Moneymaker recorded a couple of solo tapes and also worked with Viktimized Karcass, a Memphis area jamband which also featured Chris Phinney.
