    tape of the month

Ray Carmen "Bubblegum Buddha" ( Pop! Productions 1993)

    By Don Campau | 25 November 2011

LISTEN TO AND DOWNLOAD THIS TAPE

Loaded with infectious jangly pop, Ohio’s Ray Carmen delivered one of his best statements with 1993’s “Bubblegum Buddha”. His high tenor is an assured instrument and one that is readily identifiable. Ray does not confront much although he does swerve into the experimental lane briefly here and there. This is comfort food but don’t be afraid to consume all you want. It’s satisfying and just plain yummy.

Ray originally released this excellent tape in 1993 and then added a few tracks for the CD version in 2007. Originally his tape label was Pop! Productions that he later changed to Cut And Paste Records. Ray graciously allowed me to distribute the album on my Lonely Whistle label. It is offered here as a free stream or download.
